Can you wear UGGs in the snow and are UGGs waterproof?
While it is recommended that UGGs are worn in cold conditions, we highly recommend not wearing your UGG boots in the snow or rain.
Designed by an Australian surfer living in Southern California in 1978, UGGs were simply designed to keep feet warm, rather than protect them from snow and wet weather.
Made with a suede exterior, the classic UGG boots are not waterproof, and while it might seem tempting to wear them in the snow and rain (to keep your feet warm!), you’re likely to wind up doing irreparable damage that will ultimately result in you needing to buy a brand new pair of UGG boots.
If you choose to buy the UGG care kit, it does include water and stain-resistant spray, however, this is likely to protect your boots from light rainfall and splashes only.
Are UGGs bad for your feet?
With excessive wear, those with flat soles may find that their ankles are more likely to start rolling inwards while wearing UGG boots.
However, there are some things you can do to prevent this:
- Alternate between the shoes you wear
- Wear boots with an orthopaedic insole to help keep your feet inline
If you find that your feet become sweaty and moist after wearing UGG boots, your feet may become the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungal infections. To prevent this:
- Wear wicking socks to keep sweat away from the shearling inside
- Let the shoes air out between uses
- Bring an extra pair of socks to change into if you plan on wearing your shoes for a long period
How long do UGG boots last?
Looked after properly with the UGG care kit, UGG boots will last anywhere from 5 years to 20 years, offering you plenty of time to get the most out of your boots!
Does wearing socks with UGGs ruin them?
Although it doesn’t ruin them necessarily, wearing socks with UGGs can make them less comfortable to wear, as well as detract from the cosy feeling of the sheepskin.
The genuine sheepskin in UGGs regulates to your body temperature, helping to keep your feet warm in the cold. With socks on, the UGGs won’t be able to work to their full potential.
However, like stated above, if your feet do become sweaty or start to show an odour either during or after wearing, it’s recommended that you do wear socks to stop the development of fungal and bacterial infections.
Can you wash UGGs?
Never put your UGGs in the washing machine or take them to a cleaner, as this will likely damage them.
It’s best to clean UGGs with a nail brush and soapy water, doing so very carefully to remove dirt.
From the moment you get your UGGs, we recommend protecting them with the UGG protection kit and using only UGG branded sprays to ensure that no damage is done in the process.
Can you repair UGGs?
You should never attempt to repair UGG boots yourself, as this could damage them further.
However, some specialists will be able to fix aspects of your UGG boots, including everything from stitching to resoling and replacing zips.
Do UGGs stretch?
UGG’s don’t tend to stretch, but the fur inside will bed-down to mould to your feet.
It is possible to buy new sheepskin insoles if you’ve had your UGGs a while and feel they have moulded too much.
Do UGGs run big or small?
UGGs run true to size, however, they may seem a little tight when first worn. This is due to the sheepskin inside that will flatten as you wear them, so don’t worry too much about that.
Your UGG’s should fit snugly and have a lack of space for room and movement to keep your feet cosy and comfortable.
