As with any material, there are certain precautions you must take to ensure they’re protected from the elements and looked after as much as possible.

Do’s & Don’ts
Do:
- Alternate between different shoes – don’t wear the same pair of UGGs all the time!
- Leave UGGs to air between uses
- Protect them with the UGG care kit
- Clean any dirt off gently with a clean and fine nail brush
Don’t:
- Wear your UGGs in heavy rain
- Wear your UGGs in the snow
- Store or dry your UGGs in direct sunlight or direct heat
- Put your UGGs in the washing machine or tumble dryer
- Take your UGGs to a dry cleaner
- Try and carry out any repair work yourself – always take your UGGs to a professional
Getting rid of stains
While applying sheepskin protector (UGG protector) works as a good defence against light stains, there are always some tricky ones that are tough to budge.
Water stains
Snow and rain is a nightmare for UGGs, and as they’re not waterproof, can be incredibly damaged by the elements.
If your UGG boot has a water stain in one particular place, first use a damp cloth to evenly wet the rest of the boots to prevent major water lines or marks. Then:
- Carefully blot wet areas with a dry cloth – don’t wipe
- Fill UGG boots with paper towels or other dry paper and let them dry in a place that’s away from direct heat and sunlight
- Clean with a suede cleaner and damp cloth if necessary
Salt stains
Salt from the beach, streets and roads in the winter can leave white markings on your suede and sheepskin UGGs.
First, deal with any water stains before completely drying the boots. Then:
- Mix 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water and dab the mixture onto the salt stains
- Rinse with a wet cloth
- Blot with a dry cloth
- Leave to dry completely
Mud
Easier to get rid of than other stains, mud on your UGGs can be a real eyesore when it comes to your outfit.
- Let the mud completely dry
- Brush off as much of the mud as possible
- With any remaining mud, use a suede cleaner
Other stains
Getting rid of other stains such as coffee or ink can be tricky, but do-able if you are patient.
- Buff away the stains with a suede brush, emery board, toothbrush or dry towel – finding the right equipment for your stain is important. Be careful not to go too hard on the boots with any of these
- If the stain is still there, dab with suede cleaner on a dry cloth
Cleaning the fur
After a little while of use, the fur inside UGG boots can become matted and dirty.
As it’s important not to throw your UGGs in the washing machine, we recommend trying the following:
- Sprinkle some baking powder into your UGG boots and let them sit overnight
- Vacuum or brush out the remaining baking powder the next morning
These steps are also good if you struggle with the odour of your UGGs after sock-free wear, as the baking powder will help deodorise them without causing any harm.
