How should Birkenstocks fit?

When wearing your Birkenstock sandals, there should be a few millimetres of space at either end of your foot, and your feet should fit comfortably within the shaped footbed without coming over the edges.
The straps should hug your feet but not be too tight or leave any pressure marks. You should have comfortable freedom of movement when your straps are fastened and there should be no friction between your feet and the edges of the footbed.
Can Birkenstocks get wet and are Birkenstocks waterproof?
While it isn’t advised to wear your Birkenstocks in the rain or other moist conditions as they aren’t waterproof, Birkenstocks can get wet on occasion as long as it isn’t for a prolonged period.
If they get wet, simply leave them to dry out in a shaded place away from any direct heat sources such as fireplaces, radiators and sunlight, as this can cause the soles to shrink and the cork to crack.
